I wish I had this about 35 years ago. Andy does a real nice job of putting a lot of needed info — that many of us taught ourselves over years of doing and watching others — into a very concise package. The pages on pocket screw joinery are very helpful — particularly if you have never used pocket screws before. Very simple book on what can be a very complex subject.

I’ve been wanting to make some pieces that just fit my space. I’m a little familiar with woodworking but not confident enough to jump into a project. This book gives good definitions and instructions.

I love how this book starts with the simple steps to build a box, and then shows how to build furniture with the box structure like an entry-way table or bookshelf, etc.

This book does not tell you how to make a Chippendale breakfront, but it does provide very useful tips and timesavers for the novice woodworker (like me). A practical guide for those who use 2X4s to build shelves and workbenches.

This book cuts to the chase and doesn’t waste your time. A great place to start.

Great Book. Simple and easy to understand. Very informative and straightforward I would definitely recommend for the beginner. If you are new working with wood….Get it!

My Dad and his Dad were carpenters – however – their skills were not passed on to me – in other words, I was ‘not’ born with their carpenter skills. So I purchased the book not really knowing what I was really paying for!
Wow! This book tells you what length screw to use when you are using E.G. a 1″ x 3/4″ board attaching to a 1″ x 3/4 inch board. This may not mean anything to some of you reading this, but, if you are not a craftsman like my Dad or my Grandpa was, that information was great!

This is a comprehensive book the for home owner who wants to make improvements to their property. It is easy to understand for the homeowner its not above our skillset. Understanding wood, finishes, fasteners, tools, etc. really gives you a better understanding. I will be able to build and put doors on a cabinet and it will help me build cabinets in our pantry, its easy to read and follow. Andy did an excellent job!

Great for beginners, like me.

As a “wood butcher” amateur this is most helpful. Looking forward to more time to use this book with projects.

Nice book for a beginner but not much there for folks with more than a little practical experience. Would make a nice gift for anyone wanting to learn some basics of easy woodworking but not wanting to necessarily become a master craftsman. Everyone needs a starting place.
