I’ve been a slave.
And I’ve been free.
Freedom is better.
I’ve been a slave to a job I hated…
I’ve been a slave to the demands of others…
And I’ve been a slave to the miserable grind of poverty.
But now I’m free.
I travel where and when I want. I work for myself. I hang out with people I’d always imagined meeting. And I live in a place I chose, not someplace I just ended up.
My life is exactly what I’ve always dreamed it could be.
The thing is, there was nothing special about me.
I came from a town of 4,500 people. My dad worked in a factory as a plumber and steamfitter. I had bad grades in high school, and got kicked out more times than I can count. I went to a mediocre university, worked for minimum wage (and less), and was down to the last $15 in my wallet on more than one occasion.
But today I’ve got a very successful business and a hot wife. I travel to the world’s most exotic places and write about my experiences in glossy magazines that are read by thousands of people. I spend every day doing the things I love, with people I respect, to create products and art I believe in.
What about you?
Will you die without having lived?
You really don’t have to, you know. YOU can be free, and you can create the life you’ve always dreamed of living.
Life is short and we only get one crack at this. You’re running out of time.
Don’t wait around for someone else to bestow your dreams on you. Step up and make them happen.
There’s nothing stopping you — you simply have to choose.
Imagine a lifestyle where you spend every day doing exactly what you want, when you want…
You’re financially independent — meaning you no longer have to depend on anyone else to make ends meet — so you can choose to work when you want, with whoever you want.
You’re free from restriction. Free from doing things just to please someone else, or to avoid an argument, or to escape guilt.
Your life has become an adventure, filled with amazing new experiences, exciting new friends, the love of your life, and the items from your “bucket list”…
YOU decided what makes you happy. And you followed that path — unapologetically, right to the max.
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?
Well you can have that starting today.
Voice From Another Room: “If it’s that easy, why isn’t everyone doing it?”
I think it’s because they just don’t know how.
How I Discovered The Secret to Happiness
I spent twenty years meticulously testing my ideas in the arena of my life. And you’re right, it wasn’t easy. In fact, it felt pretty hopeless a lot of the time — especially at 3am.
I went down so many false paths and dead ends — sometimes for years. And I suffered through an incredible amount of trial and error.
But I also learned from my mistakes, and I got better and better at focusing on what works.
It took me nearly 20 years to achieve my dream. But that won’t be the case for you. At least, not if you take the short cuts I discovered.
Is this just more bubbly self-help nonsense?
#@$% no!
The tools I discovered will work for someone who wants to live a jet set lifestyle like me, or for someone whose goal is to stay in one place and raise a big family — the strategies work across the board.
And you WON’T find them in the self-help section of the bookstore.
I read a lot of “self help” stuff during the first decade of my quest. I devoured just about everything in print. And I found a lot of wishy washy crap.
Many books had a piece of the puzzle. They gave me a good idea, but the system as a whole was what worked for that author. Adopting it could only lead me where HE was going. And that wasn’t my destination of choice.
A lot of the rest was just New Age nonsense. Those writers tried to convince me that the miserable unsatisfying situation I was living in was perfectly okay. They said I should just accept it and be happy.
But I didn’t want to accept it. I wanted to create my ideal vision, and I would settle for nothing less.
Other books taught an easy way out in the form of wishful thinking. Learn this meditation and you will magically manifest everything your heart desires. Uncover “the secret” that will instantly transform your life. Lots of mystical nonsense that would give you everything without any effort, if only you believed hard enough.
Yeah, well, in my experience the only people who create vibrant, abundant lives for themselves using those ideas are the people selling them to everyone else.
Here’s The Problem With Those “Lifestyle Design” Sites…
For the longest time, that’s what you would have found if you searched for “self help” solutions to personal freedom.
But it’s changing now, and there are a few new ideas floating around…
The world’s speeding up. We’re living increasingly global lives. And some of that old “self-help” stuff is going global along with it.
These days I see a growing proliferation of blogs that teach “lifestyle design” — but they all seem to say the same thing. They either focus on how to create a portable “location-free” lifestyle, or how to start an internet business for financial independence.
But what if you don’t want to travel? And what if financial independence isn’t your end goal, but is just a means to an end?
Shouldn’t “lifestyle design” focus on happiness in general? And shouldn’t YOU be the one to define that term?
That’s exactly what I did for myself. And I can show you how to do it too.
You’ll learn how to:
- Accurately assess where your life is right now
- Uncover your Purpose
- Create a personal philosophy that empowers your dreams
- Master the one goal setting method that actually works
- Learn the 5 key traits that put me on the road to my dreams
- Remove the obstacles from your life that are holding you back
- Avoid the 2 key traps that cause 90% of the misery in your work and relationships
- …and much much more
I spent 20 years trying to figure this stuff out. And I distilled everything I learned into this clear, concise book. Personal Freedom: A Guide to Creating the Life of Your Dreams is everything I learned about freedom and lifestyle design. Period.
I didn’t invent all of these strategies, of course. Some were adopted from other writers who came before me — and I’ve identified those people in the text so you can follow up and study more of their thoughts. Some I adapted and changed. Others I created myself from the sum of my successful experiences.
But you know what I think is the most useful thing about my book…?
What’s NOT in it.
I cut the fluff, the wishful thinking, the New Age nonsense, the dead ends, the over complication, and the sort of anal robotic methods that turn your life into a paper-piling routine.
I also cut out every needless word. There are no longwinded stories and time-wasting rambles. Just strategies you can apply, and exercises that teach you how.
Sick to death of wading through useless pages of filler? Just want to get to the point? Then this is for you.
I took a long hard look at my life and my successes, and I clearly identified the key ideas that worked for me.
They will work for you too.
About Ryan Murdock
My ideal of personal freedom has always involved travel.
I’ve travelled to some of the world’s most unforgiving places, including Mongolia, Tibet, Nicaragua, and North Korea, by Russian jeep, motorcycle, dugout canoe, horse and camel. But no trip had the same soul-shaking impact as the first time I set out alone on the road. I wrote about it in my first book, Vagabond Dreams: Road Wisdom from Central America.
As Editor-at-Large (Europe) for Outpost, I travel regularly on assignment to write major features for the magazine. My work has been showcased extensively in print and visual media, including Toronto’s Eye Weekly, CBC Radio and on the primetime CTV television show ETalk, Canada’s top-rated entertainment program. My Outpost feature “Taklamakan: The Worst Desert in the World” was nominated for a National Magazine Award in Canada.
As part of my personal freedom plan, I also write and publish fitness ebooks through Shapeshifter Media, Inc. I’ve coauthored several bestsellers, including Shapeshifter Body Redesign, Bodyweight Exercise Revolution and TACFIT Commando. I’ve taught training seminars across North America and Europe, and worked with international rock stars like Jim Gillette of Nitro, guitar diva Lita Ford, and Steve Kilbey of The Church. I was inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2006.
You’d think all this work would keep me out of trouble, but somehow it doesn’t. From run-ins with communist militaries, to physical altercations with the secret police of a certain Asian country, to survival situations on the Mongolian steppe with two Swedish girls and a very small tent, mischief continues to stalk me despite publishing deadlines. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I created a series of exercises that will walk you through this process, one step at a time. All you have to do is follow my directions, and set aside a little time for some deep, honest thinking.
Don’t worry — it’s fun. It feels a lot like creating a character in a novel, or sketching out travel plans. And it can be anything you want it to be.
And don’t worry if some of your dreams seem outrageous. My friends and family said the same things about mine — until I landed a masthead title in a Canada’s biggest travel magazine, appeared on national primetime TV, and started hanging out with rock stars.
That’s when they started asking me how the hell I did it!
Here’s how I see it…
I believe in only taking advice from people who were successful at the stuff I’m asking them about — simply because following their advice will make my life more like theirs.
Would you ask a single friend for relationship advice? Or would you ask a bitter divorced couple? No, you’d ask a happy couple for advice on how to create a happy relationship.
Would you ask your buddy who can’t hold a job for advice on becoming financially independent? Of course not! You’d ask someone who’s succeeded in that area of life. But more precisely, you’d ask someone who succeeded in a way that’s acceptable to you. A bank robber might have become financially
independent through theft, but if you don’t approve of stealing from others, then that person isn’t the right source for you.
Want Health and fitness advice? Great. Who do you ask? Someone who walks their talk, or your fat chain smoking doctor?
You get the idea.
When it comes to lifestyle design, I think I’m a pretty good person to listen to because I’ve succeeded in creating the ideal life I envisioned for myself over 20 years ago. And as you just read above, I didn’t start my journey with any advantages or connections. I also made a lot of mistakes along the way. But I did it. And I know you can too.
Create YOUR Own Life — Starting Today
You don’t have to imitate my lifestyle in order to do this. Your goals might even be the polar opposite of mine.
The details of those choices are irrelevant. What matters is that the tools work, and you can apply them to any vision you choose to create.
This knowledge is contained in Personal Freedom: A Guide to Creating the Life of Your Dreams.
It’s a meta-system anyone can use.
You CAN find personal freedom. And you CAN create the dream lifestyle you’ve always wanted to live. All it takes is the knowledge of where to go next.
Because Life Is Short, And It Doesn’t Wait Around…
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve gotta go out. The sun is shining — well, it’s always shining here. I live on an island in the Mediterranean. In a 400 year old stone palazzo that was the summer home of some archbishop. And there’s a cove with incredible translucent water just a few minutes away.
So yeah, while you’re downloading this book, I’m going swimming.
Read it.
Do the exercises that I included in each chapter — I’ll walk you through your own lifestyle design plan step-by-step. And by the time you’re finished, you’ll know exactly what to do next.
Put these ideas to use, starting today.
By this time next year I might just bump into you over at my swimming spot. We’ll raise a glass together and toast the good life. We’ll talk about where we came from, our struggles and dreams. And you’ll ask yourself why the heck you didn’t get started earlier…
Because life is short, and it doesn’t wait around.
Sometimes opportunity really will knock only once.
